Top 10 Safest Countries In The World

reykjavikBy Denis Foynes

The Legatum Institute has released its Top 10 safest countries in the world. The organization took various parameters to find out the security of the nation; they took well-being and income to measure national security and personal safety to measure how safe citizens feel to live in a specific country. As you may have guessed, Scandinavia fairs quite in the list.

Here is the Top 10

10. Taiwan: is a very stable country where the citizens feel very safe. It is completely safe to walk around or even catch public transport at night. Violent crime and theft levels are amazingly low.

9. Slovenia: Four out of every five citizen feel safe walking alone in the night. The country has remained completely free of terrorist incidents. Slovenia also does not have any major problems in terms of occupancy of land or border disputes.

8. Sweden: has a much lower crime rate than most other European countries. 7 out of 10 individuals feel safe walking alone in the night.

7. New Zealand: according to the 2010 Global Peace Index, is the safest place to live in the world. New Zealand’s local police force is strong and you can be assured that all criminal matters are taken seriously. It is a secure nation and that prides itself on maintaining safe communities.

6. Denmark: faces very little national security challenges. 1.1% of the population has reported being assaulted and 9% of the population has been victims of theft; these are 6th and 25th lowest figures in the world. Crimes rates are incredibly low in the country’s major cities. For example, there are no “bad neighborhoods" in even a busy like Copenhagen.

5. Singapore: has no national security threat and crime is almost non-existent. This is in no small part due to the strong hand of the justice system. Even for spitting on the street can get you a strong sentence. 8 out 10 people feel safe walking alone at night in the country.

4. Ireland: previous terrorism problems are now nearly non-existent. Ireland has a low rate of violent crime and the people are very friendly and welcoming to foreigners.

3. Finland: has very few national security threats. Violent crime is very rare. People of Finland feel they are safe and they enjoy the liberty to express their opinions on political issues without any fear.

2. Norway: has real no “bad areas” even in the major cities. Ironically, the absolute utter disbelief following the unique 2011 terrorist attacks in the country demonstrations how safe the Norway truly is. 85% of the population feels safe walking alone in the night.

1. Iceland: there is almost no chance of getting robbed or harassed. There are no safety issues regarding homeless people or drugs. If you desire safety, Reykjavik is the world’s perfect destination.
