Colombia's second city Medellin has been ranked as one of the top three most innovative cities in the world and is now in the running for the number-one spot along with New York and Tel Aviv.
The three cities beat Copenhagen, Vienna, Berlin, Singapore Chicago, Hong Kong, Toronto, Sao Paulo, and London in the online competition directed in the Citibank advertising extra in the Wall Street Journal. The overall winner is to be decided by public vote and will be announced on December 31st.
Medellin has received worldwide praise in recent years for lowering crime rates while starting new social projects that are improving communities. The improved metro has also been a huge success.
All of these changes are all the more impressive when the cities troubled past is taken into account. From infrastructure to art and nightlife to style, Medellin has moved on from its past at a fast pace and the world is only starting to take notice.
